Get to Know Us

Our Neighborhood

Our neighborhoods are dramatically different than they were 60 years ago. The Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education (1954), the Civil Rights Act of 1968 & Oklahoma City’s history of segregation has caused neighborhoods that are largely polarized by race & class. This disconnectedness has resulted in unequal educational opportunity & outcomes for the students & families who belong to these communities. We’re working to change this.

Our Vision

Schools are central

OKCPS Superintendent Robert Neu stated that our city's statistics show that our minority children are "dying on the vine" as they disproportionately lack the same opportunities to build a foundation from which to thrive academically. Academic studies show that minority students who are not able to read by 3rd grade are 8x more likely to drop out of high school.

By surrounding our Northeast Oklahoma City schools with support, we hope to be able to come alongside and serve our school leaders, teachers & classrooms so that we can all work together to make our schools a place where children, educators & the community thrive. We believe that even if budgets are low we can make our teachers feel so appreciated and our students feel so hopeful that success is inevitable.

We believe that the solution is relationship & that it takes the whole community.

As a part of the larger community development organization RestoreOKC, Restore Schools researches and develops best practices for creating collaborative community around schools and through the Northeast Oklahoma City community.  We believe that when we utilize the principles of “Asset Based Community Development” we can focus on building sustainable, mutually beneficial relationships of reconciliation that work together to result in the holistic flourishing of our community.

We think the 2019-2020 school year is monumental for OKCPS & we want to make sure its legacy is one where students thrive!
